Yesterday I went to the exhibition Transformation of the Kimono - Art of Itchiku Kubota. Very beautiful and gorgeous!
Transformation of the Kimono - Art of Itchiku Kubota - This is a monographic exhibition of works of outstanding tribute Japanese artist and innovator Itchiku Kubota jp. 久保田 一竹 (1917-2003). The master credited to revive the ancient art of lost decorative technic Tsujigahana and created of its modification named Itchiku-Tsujigahana. The magnificent works of Itchiku changed existing concepts about decorating kimono and provided him fame of an extraordinary artist and craftsman whose works are mind boggling and pleasing to the eyes.
The exhibition Transformation of the Kimono - Art of Itchiku Kubota brings together the largest group of works by the artist that has ever been exhibited outside of Japan. 80 kimonos included in this exhibition represent a retrospective overview of the artist works, starting from an innovative individual kimono to kimonos related into complex landscapes.
The exposition begins with kimono San, which reflects the beauty of the setting sun. According to the video the artist saw this sun during the three-year stay as a military prisoner in Siberia. Contemplated sunsets forever remain in the artist's memoirs. The next comes a series The Symphony of Light. This series was planned to contain 80 kimonos representing the grand panorama. Unfortunately the artist managed to complete only 29 of the kimonos Seasons cycle depicting An Autumn and A Winter and 5 kimono of cycle The Universe. 2 more works from the cycle The Universe have been completed using his sketches by his students.
The exhibition also includes a series
The Oceans and
The Fuji-san, as well as individual kimono. Also, the video shows Itchiku Kubota's process of creating a kimono, his fashion shows, interviews and else.
The entire collection was bought by private owner to be kept together after Itchiku
Kuboto's Museum almost bankrupting situation and appearing of
a question about selling kimono, but this collection is still the cultural heritage of Japan.Museum link ( Kimono )
